The Naturalization and Immigration Department at the Ministry of Interior is the only administrative authority responsible for issuing visas to foreigners wishing to enter the UAE. The visas issued by the Department differ in accordance with the purpose of the visit of the foreign visitor.

It is important to note that the government directives are subject to change and hence the need to check the current regulations applicable at the time of travel.

Following are the guidelines in respect of the types of visas and procedure followed for obtaining each of them:

VISIT VISAS

VISIT VISA FOR INDIVIDUALS:

It is the visa granted to relatives of expatriates working in the UAE in the Government sector or in private companies and establishments, where the Visa Section in the Naturalization & Immigration Department issues a visit visa valid for one month renewable for not more than two months.

According to an application supported by the following documents:
Certificate of the salary of the sponsor provided that it is not less than three thousand dirhams for the Arab and five thousand for the non-Arab
Photocopy of the visitor's passport
Filling the application for the visa according to the form used in the Naturalization and Immigration Department signed by the applicant.
An undertaking letter from the sponsor stating his responsibility of the visitor during his visit.
It is worth mentioning that the Naturalization and Immigration Department renews the visit visa at its expiry date if the sponsor so desires. The visitor should leave the country after the expiration of his visa; otherwise the Control Section will follow the cases of visitors who fail to leave the country in order to deport them.

VISIT VISA FOR COMAPNIES:

It is the visa issued by the visa section of the Naturalization & Immigration Department for persons who are not AGCC nationals - a company working in the UAE applies for granting them a visit visa for a period of one to three months, in accordance with an application form (used by the Naturalization & Immigration.

Department and supported by the following documents:
Photocopy of the trade license issued by the Economic Department
An undertaking letter from the company for its full responsibility of the visitor during his visit.
Photocopy of the visitor's passport.


MULTIPLE VISIT VISA

It is the visa granted to a visitor by which he can enter and leave the country during the validity of the visa. For granting such a visa, the visitor should have been given the normal visit visa for one time and the visa should have been used, then he is granted consequently a multiple visa at the request of the same sponsor.

The visa is for six months and it can be renewed. The documents required for such a visa are:
Photocopy of the valid trade license of the company (sponsor) issued by the Economic Department
Photocopy of the visitor's passport
Filling in the visa application according to the form used by the Naturalization and Immigration Department duly signed.
An undertaking letter from the sponsor for his responsibility of the visitor during his visit to the state.

RESIDENCE VISA

It is the visa stamped on the passport proving the legal residence of the expatriate in the country. This visa is given to workers who have obtained work permits or for relatives living with them permanently. The Visa Section issues the residence visa for persons working in the Governments, Companies, house servicing (such as drivers, house-maids, servants etc.) and for persons provided by any of the above-mentioned persons such as the wife and children (in case of meeting all the required conditions) after the submission of documents pertaining to every one of them.

Documents required for persons working in the Government:
An official letter from the Government Department in which the employee is working.
Photocopy of the employee's passport.
Photographs of the employee.
Filling in the visa application and signing it by the Department.

Documents required for issuing residence visas for persons working in the Private Companies:
Photocopy of the trade license issued by the Economic Department to the firm in which the person is working.
Passport of the worker.
Filling in the residence visa application form and duly signing and sealing it.
The original entry permit issued by the Department by which the person had entered the country.
Personal photographs (passport size).
The labor card issued by the Ministry of Labor.

Documents required for issuing residence visa for the workers in house services.
Certificate of the salary of the sponsor.
The labor contract clarifying the salary of the worker.
Passport of the worker.
Filling in the visa application according to the form used by the Naturalization and Immigration Department duly signed.
6 photographs of the worker (passport size).
Medical certificate proving the physical ability of the worker in house servicing.
Documents required for issuing residence visas for Dependent
Photocopy of the license issued by the Economic Department in favor of the company or firm in which the person is working.
Marriage deed (in case the sponsored spouse is a wife) attested by the concerned authorities.
Passports of the wife and children.
Passport of the sponsoring husband or the father.
A letter from the party with which the employee is working (husband or father).
6 photographs of each of the family members (passport size).
Filling in the visa application according to the form used by the Naturalization and Immigration Department and duly signing it.
Certificate of the husband's salary from the employer.
Medical certificate proving medical fitness of the employee.

The Visa Section stamps the residence visa on the passports of dependent persons after they enter the country and produce the entry permit issued by the Department. The residence visa for children is stamped on the mother's passport if they have no separate passports. If they have their own passports the visa is stamped on each of their passports.

TRANSIT VISA

It is the visa granted to expatriates who are businessmen, tourists or other visitors whose residence in the country does not exceed 14 days. The Visa Section at Dubai International Airport issues this visa for individuals at the request of any licensed company such as hotel or trading companies holding authorization for a transit visa. This visa is issued after consulting the Naturalization and Immigration Department. The documents required for obtaining this visa are:
Filling in the application for the transit visa in Arabic and English duly signed and sealed by the sponsor.
Attaching the authorization card with the application to verify the correctness of the signatures and seals.
Procedures for obtaining the authorization card for the transit visa is done through the submission of an application to the Visa Section at
Dubai International Airport on the form designed for this purpose attached by the following documents:

Copy of the valid trade license issued by the Economic Department.
Photocopy of the passport of the owner or general manager of the firm.
Filling in the application forms for the authorization card duly signed and sealed.

GROUP VISA (Entry Permit)

This visa is issued for a large number of people in some cases such as visit of tourists groups, student groups and the like. A group entry permit is issued by the Visa Section of the Naturalization and Immigration Department for workers if the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs agrees to their working in the UAE where the ministry officially notifies the Naturalization and Immigration Department of this, provided that their total number and nationalities are defined. On the arrival of these workers to the UAE, all detailed information related to them will be registered in special records.
